Scarlett Johansson is an American actress and singer. She is born in NYC in the United States on November 22, 1984. Her performances have earned her praise across a vast spectrum of genres such as time-based dramas, thrillers, and action-packed adventures. Johansson is the daughter of the film producer as well as an architect, grew up as a child in New York City. The twin brothers Hunter and her brother Hunter were among the youngest of siblings. She developed an interest for acting at an early age. She began to audition for commercials around the age of seven. Then she began her studies at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and then was a student at the Professional Children's School in Manhattan to improve her skills. Her debut came as an actor in a film North (1994) at nine years old. She was just eight when she performed alongside Ethan Hawke on Off-Broadway in Sophistry. Johansson made her debut on screen in Just Cause, but she became famous when she appeared in Manny & Lo, a film about siblings left behind by their parents who flee. The film received critical appreciation for her portrayal of the teen victim of an injury that is disfiguring during The Horse Whisperer (1998) as well as further recognition for her role as the cynical teenage outcast Rebecca on the set of Ghost World (2001).
